DESCRIPTION:  Although the official First Day of Issue for the 2c Columbian stamp was January 1, 1893, this was a Sunday when most post offices were closed and so covers dated January 2 (Monday) are also accepted as a First Day Covers (FDCs) -- See Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps & Covers for further details. Thus the clear JAN 2, 1893 ALBANY, N.Y. postmark (which nicely ties the stamp) on this cover certainly qualifies.  The next day, JAN 3, WELLS (VERMONT) receiver on the reverse makes this cover even more desirable as does the the fact that this is an advertising cover with an intricate illustration on the left. We note for accuracy that the cover was unevenly opened at the left by the recipient and so reduced somewhat on that side. Wonderful postal history !! See scan(s) for additional details.
