PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT claiming that this is a first day cancellation (Jan 1 or Jan 2 of 1893) of US# 239. It is my understanding that a first day cancellation of US# 239 (the 30c Columbian) has never been found. According to my (older) edition of Scott's Specialized Catalog of US Stamps and Covers, the earliest documented use of US# 239 is Jan 18, 1893 for an off-cover stamp and Feb 8, 1893 for a US# 239 on-cover. Therefore, the Jan 6, 1893 postmark on this stamp is significant.
