This is a 19th century antique Chinese trunk in red lacquer, with faded gilt decorations as a testament to its age and rustic origin. The trunk features a refined narrow and low-slung rectangular form and shaped apron carved to resemble a dragon's tail.
The cabinet's structure,
which
is consistent with traditional, handcrafted Chinese furniture, confirms its authenticity: four easily removable doors supported by wooden hinges; and tenon and mortise joinery requiring no glue or mechanical joining device. The hardware is
original and intact.
