    Description

Ammonite specimens in matrix stone easily identified and g
reat educational hands on learning tools
with one side polished in matrix rock and the other side rough cut and size running approximately 3/4  to 1 1/2 inch wide by 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep. Each winner will receive 10 ammonite fossil specimens scooped from ammonite fossils as  pictured.
    Ammonites
are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals and as molluscs are more closely related to living squid, cuttlefish and calamari than they are to shelled nautiloids of today. The earliest ammonites appear during the Devonian, and the last species died out during the Cretaceous extinction event. The name "ammonite", from which the scientific term is derived, was inspired by the spiral shape of their fossilized shells, which somewhat resemble tightly coiled ram horns ("Horns of Ammon") because the Egyptian god Ammon was typically depicted wearing ram's horns. These particular ammonites are from
North Africa near the Sahara desert and are nice specimens for hands on educational use as well as collections with each auction winner receiving 10 pieces
