  • Condition: As is typical with many of the antique Chinese pieces, where applicable some of the hardware may have been replaced. There is general wear, and may be some shrinkage and age cracks that is typical for a piece this old, especially considering the climate difference. We feel these flaws add to the character of the piece and are preferable to replacement during restoration, Sometimes it is necessary to repair or replace certain components of the furniture, but that is typically done with antique wood. We try to be as clear as possible in the photos attached, however we are limited in the number of photos we can include, so it may not be possible to show every detail.     Antique Chinese Small Wood Trunk w Relief Carved Front, 18" W x 10" D x 13" T
    NOTE: we originally had 2 of these trunks for you to choose from. We only have one left and it is the one in the first image.

    Antique Chinese Small Carved Front Trunk
    This beautiful small trunk is a charming decorative piece that could have many uses.
    The four sides appear to be single boards that are connected with dovetail joints.
    The front side had nicely detailed hand relief carved designs. The center is a large flower, most likely a Chrysanthemum. In each bottom corner there are carvings of moths (left trunk) or storks (right trunk). Above the flower there is a single carved moth. The front section of the lid has Chinese characters, with a carved circular design in the center.
    The front hardware has a round back-plate on the front of the lid with a drop latch and the bottom of the latch goes over a loop that also has a round back-plate.
    The lid of the trunk has an unusual shape.  The front and back have a flat vertical section and then angles upward to a flat top.
    The trunk is finished in a dark lacquer with some lighter colored painted accents on the relief carvings.
