Description
This is an original Klipsch ProMedia 6 ohm impedance woofer / subwoofer speaker for use in the ProMedia v.2-400, 4.1 and 2.1 subwoofers. It has a new rubber surround (in place of the original foam surround) to restore the speaker to performance and life expectancy like when it was new.In this case a refurbished original item is
better
than a generic new replacement, or an old, used original speaker. This speaker matches the factory amplifier (2.1, 4.1 and v.2-400 ProMedias). People misread the owner's manual or the label on the back of a 4.1 panel, which states that a minimum 4 ohm speaker can be used, but 4 ohms is in reference to the
satellite
speakers, not the internal subwoofer speaker. Klipsch's original speaker is 6 ohm impedance.
You can see a few photos to show how to remove the grill to check on the condition of a 6.5" ProMedia subwoofer speaker.
A
.50 refund
is available for returning a rebuildable original 6.5" speaker.
Note: I also have brand
new
Klipsch ProMedia speakers, item

. They cost a bit more, but are new from the factory; manufactured in January 2020.
Cautions about buying used or non-OEM speakers in these series:
Used Original Speakers: the foam surrounds deteriorate. Every ProMedia 2.1 sub has a date code inside. Ask the seller what the date was on the sub from which he pulled the used speaker. Over 8 years old risks brittle foam. Less than 5 years old should be good.
Non-Klipsch Replacement Warning (wrong impedance):
A) 4-ohm will strain and can damage the amplifier.
B) 8-ohm will produce less power from your system. People have bought literally hundreds of speakers that reduce the performance (power) of their subwoofer to 75% of its original capability. This original from Klipsch
preserves
the subwoofer's full performance.
You can remove the metal grill (see photos), and touch the foam surround. It should flex without cracking. If it is brittle or sticky or even has holes and tears in it, you know it is time to replace it.
A .50 core return refund is available
for shipping back a refurbishable original Klipsch ProMedia 6.5" speaker. Missing or crumbling foam for the speaker surround is fine. Speakers not eligible for a core refund would include: the coil is burned (feels scratchy when the cone moves in and out), the speaker terminal(s) is snapped, the basket is bent, or the paper cone is damaged. Most of these speakers only have a problem with the foam surround, but burned coils do happen. I'll provide a free padded flat rate USPS core return envelope. It's postage has cost about .50 at the post office (less at paypal.com/shipnow) to ship a speaker back, so the net core refund is about . This also means the item is recycled, and someone else gets to enjoy many more hours from your old speaker.
Grill Removal Steps
: To remove your grill, you may lay a dental probe flat against the side of the sub, with the point entering and catching one of the holes in the grill where it bends to enter into the recessed groove in the outer edge of the sub's speaker. Then place a flat bladed screwdriver between the subwoofer's side and the dental probe and twist the screwdriver blade to force the grill to pop up and away from the enclosure. Reinsert the dental probe a few inches to either side of the starting point and work around the outer edge until the grill pops off. The listing has photos demonstrating these steps.
