Up for sale is a beautiful Orthoceras fossil.    Orthoceras were prehistoric squid that lived during the Ordovician-Triassic time periods, 488-200 million years ago!   If you purchase this item, you will receive one polished orthoceras piece.  There are several orthoceras specimens pictured in this listing to show an example of the size and quality of fossil you will receive if you purchase this item.   THE FOSSIL PICTURED IS NOT THE ACTUAL ONE YOU WILL RECEIVE, BUT SIMILAR.      This item measures about 5-6 inches in length.  Orthoceras were cephalopods meaning that their head and tail protruded from the same opening of the shell.  They had a cone shaped shell; they may have reached 60 feet in length by building larger chambers onto their shell.  This type of fossil is found in Morocco, North Africa.

These are slender, elongate shells with the middle of the
body chamber

constricted, and a subcentral orthochoanitic

. The surface is ornamented by a network of fine
