For sale is this stunning 9 inch(23cm) Phylloceras ammonite whose shell has been carefully chipped away by artisans to reveal the intricate suture pattern beneath. This ammonite comes from
Tulear in southern Madagascar.
Included with the ammonite is a
custom steel stand, powder-coat painted in hammertone silver.
Phylloceras is an extinct genus of ammonoid cephalopods belonging to the family Phylloceratidae. These fast-moving nektonic carnivores lived from Early Jurassic (Hettangian age) to Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian age) from 201.30 to 66.043 million years ago.
The ammonite itself weighs 6 pounds & 14.5 ounces(3.13kg). The steel stand weighs 9 pounds & 4.5 ounces(4.21kg).
